Pastel and Charcoal - 14x17

I got a sample pack from General's and decided to mess around with them. The only pastel colors used here were brown, red, and pink.

Some what. I only had a small sample set from general's. I did the drawing with charcoal first then drew over it with pastel pencil (red/pink/brown/white) its nowhere near as good as some of yours. I also need to buy the correct paper.

What paper did you use? Are those pastels soft or hard? And you did pretty well. Wasn't it too messy?

It was bristol vellum.( I just grabbed a sheet to test and kept going)The pastels are in pencil form and I would say they are hard because they sharpened pretty easily with only a few breaks. Yes I had to lift the sheet multiple times to clean it off. May be better to work at an angle but im used to flat surfaces. I know with softer pastels it is better to use something with more tooth. I want something like color pencils but without all of the time it takes to properly blend color pencil. I think Im asking for too much lol. I dont really have the space(or money for canvas/supplies) for painting so im trying to stick to dry mediums.
